Data Visualization
Rosetta is a code project seeking to make order of graffiti inscriptions. The
project interprets graffiti into a data visualization that uses common typography to lend
insight to the literal meaning of the markings. These words are then reintroduced to the
setting through wheat pasting to play wih the original graffiti tags.
By "coding" the tags it was possible to reevaluate the words used by writers and find nuances, hierarchy, and if
anything, very strange poetry.
This work mirrors
Evan Roth's Graffiti Taxonomy except instead of making a comparative analysis of
different hand styles it shows spatial hierarchy in a legible and translated format. The
biproduct is quite literally info architecture.
